Best Teacher Gifts

If you read success stories of people in developing nations who were able to improve their lives, so often it was because of education.  This is something that is truly taken for granted in the United States.  We think about gifts for our teachers at the holidays, or when the PTA reminds us, but truly the best gift you can give a teacher is your respect.

Should I Feel Guilty?

Guilt is a complicated emotion.  Sometimes it is justified, but more often than not it is "pointless and destructive" because you may not even know that you're being irrational.  How you internalize your moral values, and how demanding you make them can determine how many hours a week you spend worrying about things you have done.

The Biggest Mistake

Have you heard this quote from Albert Einstein: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?"  I have had many roles where I have had to mentor people, such as corporate supervisor, professor, and parent.  One thing I always emphasize, is that its good to make mistakes, just don't keep making the same ones over and over again.

What to Eat for Breakfast

When did breakfast get so complicated?  In the era of avocado toast and Acai bowls, what happened to traditional eggs and toast?  Research now shows that its not so much what you eat for breakfast, but whether you eat or not.

Am I lazy

Most people qualify if they are lazy by comparing themselves to others.  But, if the majority of your friends and colleagues are not setting goals or accomplishing much in life, chances are, neither are you.

Should I Go To Community College

The best job I have had was as a tenured professor at a mid-sized community college.  Not only was I able to personally connect with my students, but I felt as though I was making a real positive impact on their life.

How to Not Become Your Parents

As an adult, and a parent myself, there are many things over the years that I have done to make myself similar to, or different from my parents.  I think the biggest challenge was first deciding which characteristics were worth keeping and which needed to go.
